100 Years Bertalanffy Conference Vienna, Nov, Old City Hall

See here the posters and "rules" as displayed in Vienna: http://open-forum.de/open-space-open-forum.html

·         A great session and a wonderful way to manage interventions. It forces analysis and synthesis. Michael

·         This was my first experience in the round table open talk. It was wonderful exciting and interesting. I caught all procedure and followed accordingly. The outcome whatever I found was really very realistic. Thank you. Mohan

·         Don’t talk; Do! name not recognised

·         Judging from my experience as a participant in this conference segment, every conference should have at least one session with this brilliant format. I intend to advocate its use every chance I get. Mark Davidson

·         I found the round table very good. But the rest of the conference too many words and words. It makes no sense to me. Joe

·         The nice events occurred when participants gave time to others, to be able to finish a thought! Gerard de Zeeuw.

·         The minute card system was very useful. ... Some of the ideas developed in this session were very interesting. Name-sign

·         Eine gute soziale Erfindung. Hazel Henderson, Florida

·         Spannende Methode, spielerisch..., klare Spielregeln.

·        I enjoyed the experience, thanks you very much. … Christine

·        Stimulating, hopeful ! - Time - but will people take the time it takes ? Linda

·        ΤΙΣ ΑΓΟΡΕΥΕΙΝ ΒΟΥΛΕΤΑΙ - Τις αγορεύειν βούλεται Magic round table method Who is wishing to take the speech?  The idea of an open discussion round table, where everyone could freely express his/her ideas on a time dependent manner is excellent. The limitation of time provides the opportunity to put forth only what is worthy on saying. ….  Congratulations. Keep the good way on. Demetrios

·        Effective, enticing, introducing … Concern: Some fear self disclosure. Constantine

·        Interesting to hear from the spiritual backgrounds of the others. Maybe it could have been longer and more focussed on a special issue. Anders

·        Excellent Forum for communication, although group was slow to warm up initially, but eventually got going.  Some members of group not comfortable /confident with their own talents. In general, those with more confidence dominate discourse.  With more time, unevenness may minimize, but perhaps not the goal.  Those who actively seek Agora are likely different from those which may be curious but not activly seeking an alternative form of communication  I enjoyed the more personal and spontaneous nature of the encounter -- the smallness of the group and the relaxed setting. Annette

·        Rules are made for the guidance of the wise and the obediance of the foolish. Robin

·        A wonderful model of conversational dialogue. A diffuse group of people hear their differences — and find some/many similarities. I loved the use of “stones” - is different than that I have done before. Interesting implications (this model) for interfaith dialogue. Gord

·        Very interesting way of regulating talking time. Appears to be a fairly democratic or populist way of allowing for the topics/speakers that are most interesting / helpful to the group. My concern was slow time it took for a topic / speaker to begin once one conservation was over. And at times it felt a bit unnatural for conversation I that short (less than one minute) comments seemed to be discouraged in the method. Daniel

·        … Last, but not least: I think especially non-speakers profit from the direct response of the whole group to the manner of speaking. I for myself was pretty fast aware by the fact that my topic wasn’t really well accepted. But instead of hearing that from somebody else (which surely would have piqued my ego) I just had the possibility to intervene by myself and could give away my stones so others had to talk. However, there are so many options, possibilities and varieties offered by a simple to use method so that I hardly can believe that man haven’t thought about this earlier. Stephan

·         .... your thoughtful e-mail. The sweep of its thinking is truly cosmic.... my colleges and I are dropping everything else and will try to see how we can arrange our workshop to address the issues you have raised. In the meantime, may I wish you all success and hope that you would keep sending us the progress of your thinking? Ashok Khosla, Development Alternatives

·         The structure of this new form of dialogue is very impressing, because each participant has about the chance for a statement and asking questions. The danger of the typical monologues is avoided. By giving a bonus or incentive (time credits) interesting contributions are invited to make extended contributions. I want to hear more about this method. Ellen Henseln, Bonn, at UN Climate Summit 1995
